On 4th May 2018, Christian University of Rwanda (CHUR) authorities received the oaths of students’ representatives. This ceremony took place at CHUR, Kigali campus.
Dr. Sebastien GASANA, the Vice-Chancellor of the university congratulated students’ representatives and called upon to CHUR students to do an assessment after one year in order to find out if their representatives have accomplished the duties that they took the oath for.
Vedatse NTAGWABIRA, CHUR Guild President, thanked his colleagues who voted for them and CHUR authorities who accepted their oaths.
“Some of our objectives are to be the voice of our colleagues and to start clubs for both English language and culture to enable each student to be a member of one of them. We want to move all communication barriers of English language in our university;”he added.
Vedatse said that the campaign will be conducted to motivate CHUR students to use e-library in computer labs so that every student could get access to all books he/she wishes to read. The other concern is to train student to become entrepreneurs while they are still at the university.
Aisha UWASE, CHUR Gender Minister said that some of her female colleagues are not self confident to combine university studies and administrative functions.
“I consider motivating female students to overcome their fear so that they may reach the same level as their brothers. Therefore, soon we will start a club to be called; GLF (Girls Leader forum), where female students will learn techniques of public speaking,” she said.
Hon. Dr. Prof. Pièrre Damien HABUMUREMYI, CHUR President of Board of Trustees said that to be called minister means that student entrust their hope in their representatives.
“When you are a messenger, you have power within you; you have to behave like ministers. A leader is a bridge between students and authorities,” he added.
